Ultralocal

2010-2015

Ultralocal began as a project to revitalize a space through artistic events. Initially focused on activating a building in Paris’s 18th arrondissement, the collective soon expanded its activities beyond this location. The group’s core practices revolved around workshops, which formed the backbone of the collective approach.

These workshops brought artists together to experiment and explore new contexts, challenging their individual practices. Ultralocal emphasized autonomy, appropriation, and collaboration, often working with minimal resources. The collective organized group explorations of new territories, seeking potential spaces for artistic interventions.

Over time, Ultralocal developed more permanent projects, such as Véhicule particulier, a music label for car-specific compositions, and Recettes, a platform for knowledge exchange inspired by hackerspaces. These initiatives demonstrated the collective’s commitment to autonomy, sharing, and displacement.

The group’s activities led to the emergence of shared gestures and attitudes among its members.
Ultralocal’s approach emphasized geographical context, and mutual support. The collective valued process over results, focusing on exploring new ways of engaging with landscapes and spaces.
